Our mission is to provide teachers, students, administrators and board of education members with educational “tools” that help teachers teach and students learn.

EMTC was originally established as the Audio Visual Association of Burlington County in 1954 by NJSA Title18A:51. An AVA center was created in every NJ county to save schools money on the purchase of educational supplemental materials. The combined purchasing power of 21 counties as opposed to individual school districts is an example of one of New Jersey’s first shared services. EMTC changed its name from the AVA Center to Educational Media & Technology Center in 1997 to more accurately reflect the changing mission and services of the center. Today it serves 152 public, private and prison schools and over 7,500 teachers.

EMTC is a non-profit organization whose funding comes exclusively from member school districts.  All media and educational materials are chosen to support New Jersey Department of Education Core Curriculum Content Standards although EMTC does not receive state funds. EMTC’s beautiful new headquarters is provided by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders, but EMTC does not receive financial support from Burlington County. Direction and guidance for the EMTC comes from an elected commission composed of 3 board of education members currently serving in a Burlington County school district, 3 superintendents of  a county school district and 2 permanent members  mandated by Title 18A:51. These two members are the County Superintendent of Schools who is  Secretary for the Commission, and the County Library Director. The County Treasurer serves as the receiver/custodian of EMTC funds.
